Dr. Bige Kahraman Alper

Biography

Bige Kahraman Alper is an Associate Professor of Financial Economics at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Kellogg College. He is a research affiliate of the Financial Economics programme at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). From 2017 to 2020, he served as an Economic Advisor at the Financial Conduct Authority. He holds a PhD in Economics from Yale University, with specializations in financial markets and econometrics. His research employs big data and mathematical statistical inference to quantify economic phenomena. Bige’s expertise includes financial stability, asset management, and sustainability. He regularly publishes in top-tier academic journals and engages with policymakers and practitioners, including organizations such as the Federal Reserve, SEC, IOSCO, and the Bank of England. His work has been recognized as 'Must Read' in leading academic journals and has been cited by major business press and policy documents from institutions like the IMF and the Bank for International Settlements. Bige also teaches a wide variety of courses in economics and finance at Saïd Business School, including MBA and executive diploma programmes, and contributes to thought leadership through articles and insights for business leaders.
