Biography

Bilge Mutlu is the Sheldon B. Marianne S. Lubar Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He leads the People Robotics Laboratory and serves as the director of the INTEGRATE NSF Research Traineeship program, an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at enhancing graduate student training in the technical and societal aspects of robotics in work environments. Having received his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute in 2009, Professor Mutlu has published extensively in the field of human-robot interaction (HRI). His research focuses on developing human-centered principles and methods that foster effective and intuitive interactions between people and robotic technologies. As an advocate for rigorous, open-access publishing, he has served as the founding chief editor for the HRI section of Frontiers in Robotics & AI and holds editorial positions in several prominent journals. Professor Mutlu teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in human-computer interaction and user experience design at the University of Wisconsin.
