Biography

Bilge Serin works as a Lecturer in Global Urbanism at the University of Glasgow. She is an urban researcher with a diverse background in urban design, urban development, urban politics, and architecture. Bilge has previously worked at the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, Middle East Technical University, and Chamber City Planners in Turkey before joining the University of Glasgow. She completed her PhD in Urban Studies at Heriot-Watt University, focusing on the contemporary commodification of urban space, particularly in relation to private neighborhoods in Istanbul. Her research interests lie in cluster dynamics, inequality within urban spaces, exclusionary practices in urban development, and the representations of urban space in everyday life and mass media. Bilge's work also engages with themes surrounding climate emergency responses within the built environment, especially in retrofitting existing housing.
