Biography

The Yildiz Group focuses on laying the scientific groundwork and proof-of-principle for material systems that generate high-efficiency devices for energy conversion and information processing, based on solid state ionic-electronic materials. Significant contributions have been made towards advancing the molecular-level understanding of oxygen reduction, oxidation, ion diffusion intercalation, and charge transfer in mixed ionic-electronic solids. The approach combines theoretical, computational, and experimental analyses of electronic structure, defect mobility, and composition. Research interests include solid oxide fuel electrolysis cells, solid state lithium ion batteries, hydrogen synthetic fuel production, and analog brain-inspired computing, with an emphasis on developing durable and efficient energy-storage materials. Additionally, the impact of strain and electric fields on electronic and ionic defect transport in materials is investigated, using ab initio molecular dynamics and density functional theory to assess strain effects on ionic conductivity and electronic properties in devices, providing valuable insights for engineering next-generation electronic devices and batteries.
