Dr. Bill Allan

Biography

Bill Allan teaches Greek and Latin languages and literature at University College, University of Oxford, where he has held various academic positions, including Research Fellow for the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung and the British Academy. He has taught visiting positions at universities in Germany and Aotearoa New Zealand. Allan’s educational background includes a Master of Arts from the University of Edinburgh and a Doctorate from the University of Oxford. His academic focus lies in the literature and intellectual history of archaic classical Greece, a field in which he has published extensively. His notable works include translations and commentaries on several Greek tragedies, including those of Euripides and Homer, and he has contributed to the academic discussion on early Greek poetry. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, supporting their academic aspirations.
