Biography

Bill Brocklesby is an Associate Professor at the Zepler Institute at the University of Southampton, where he has been a faculty member since 2003. He began his research career at the Clarendon Laboratory in Oxford, focusing on laser spectroscopy. Brocklesby has also worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories as a post-doctoral member of the Technical Staff, where he engaged in novel spectroscopy of rare-earth doped optical fibers. His research interests are primarily in novel imaging and microscopy techniques in the visible and extreme ultraviolet (XUV) spectral regions, including coherent diffractive imaging and nanoscale systems using high-power ultrashort pulse lasers. Over the recent years, he has focused research on coherent diffractive imaging systems and has been involved in the ICAN project. Brocklesby also teaches in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, leading modules on lasers and advanced lasers, and has received multiple teaching awards and recognitions in the field of photonics. His extensive background includes experience in Raman microscopy, near-field techniques, and optical spectroscopy of rare-earth doped materials.
