Biography

Bill is Emeritus Professor of Econometrics at the University of Melbourne, having retired from his position as Professor of Econometrics in 2018, a position he held from 2001. At the University of Melbourne, he served as Head and Deputy Head of the Department of Economics, Director of the Centre for Microeconometrics, and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Bill previously held the role of Professor of Econometrics at the University of New England for 14 years, where he was also Head of the Department of Econometrics. His visiting appointments include Louisiana State University and universities in Georgia, Illinois, and California. He has co-authored several leading econometrics books and has published extensively in top-ranking journals. His work spans econometric methodology, estimation, hypothesis testing, demand modeling, and income distributions, garnering over 20,000 Google Scholar citations. Bill remains active in research with multiple ongoing projects and a strong publication record.
