Biography

Bill McIlroy is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. He serves as the director of the Neuroscience, Mobility Balance Lab (NiMBaL). His research focuses on advancing the understanding of the brain and central nervous system's role in controlling movements of the body, translating knowledge to help individuals improve recovery from neurological injury such as stroke, and minimizing age-related effects on mobility control. McIlroy's work includes developing new assessment tools utilizing wearable sensor technologies, with research conducted in both university-based and clinic-based labs, as well as in community settings. His teaching expertise encompasses areas such as neuroscience, balance, gait, exercise, and neurologic disorders. McIlroy employs a variety of experimental tools and technologies, including electroencephalography, electromyography, transcranial magnetic stimulation, magnetic resonance imaging, and more, to enhance his research and teaching efforts.
