Dr. Billie Faircloth

Biography

Billie Faircloth, FAIA, is a design leader who has transformed practice-based research and earned a national and international reputation for demonstrating value, methods, and outcomes. She is a partner and research director at the Philadelphia-based architectural practice KieranTimberlake, where she has led the firm’s Research Group since 2008, a transdisciplinary team recognized for applying research to design and problem-solving processes across diverse fields such as environmental management, industrial ecology, chemical physics, and materials science. Faircloth's central message revolves around the inquiry into newfound forms of professional agency as a driver for practice transformation. In 2017, Architectural Record celebrated her relentless pioneering efforts in integrated, transdisciplinary research practices, recognizing her with the Women in Architecture Innovator Award. Previously, she served as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the Weitzman School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, and has taught at esteemed institutions including Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Royal Danish Academy, and University of Texas at Austin. Her current work focuses on the socio-technical interactions that shape building culture and the environmental outcomes of architecture, providing critical grounds for innovation.
