Dr. Billy Head

Biography

Billy Head is a filmmaker and media artist specializing in audio-visual production. He is a lecturer in the School of Media, Film and Journalism at Monash University. Head holds a Bachelor's degree in Media Studies from RMIT, a Master's degree in Australian Political Economy from the University of Sydney, and a postgraduate diploma in Film and Television Directing from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. His notable works include the documentary 'Night Fare', which tells the stories of Melbourne's Indian taxi drivers and has received accolades such as the Australian Teachers Media Award for Tertiary Documentary. He has directed various documentaries, including 'Illuminated', which highlighted nighttime workers in Melbourne and screened at international festivals. Head's projects often explore video art and moving image installations, including a collaborative installation titled 'Shadow Ancient Moon' for the City of Dandenong. He has also been involved as a jury judge for the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and served as a creative director for a film company focused on commercial documentary productions. His research interests include documentary film studies, Australian cinema, and film history.
