Biography

Billy Wu is an Associate Professor and Director of Research at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London. His research primarily focuses on electrochemical design engineering, where he jointly leads the Electrochemical Science Engineering group. His key activities involve the fundamental science and engineering applications of electrochemical devices, including batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors. His work encompasses energy materials, continuum level modeling, degradation understanding, and thermal management system control. Additionally, he is a co-investigator of the Faraday Institution's Multi-Scale Battery Modelling project and has held an Industrial Fellowship with Williams Advanced Engineering. Billy is also the head of the program for the MRes in Design Engineering Research and serves as the course leader for the 1st-year Materials Manufacturing course. He has been recognized as a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2014, focusing on modeling and testing proton exchange membrane fuel cell hybrid powertrains for electric vehicles, sponsored by Nissan. His prior educational background includes a Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London in 2010.
