Biography

Bin He is a Trustee Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Neuroscience Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. He has made significant contributions to the fields of neuroengineering and biomedical imaging, notably in noninvasive brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and neuromodulation. He pioneered research that transformed electroencephalography into a three-dimensional neuroimaging modality and led his lab to demonstrate how humans can control drones and robotic arms through thought via noninvasive BCI. Bin has also contributed to neuroengineering education, having edited the textbook "Neural Engineering" across its three editions. He has received numerous awards such as the IEEE Biomedical Engineering Award and has been elected Fellow of multiple distinguished organizations, including the International Academy of Medical Biological Engineering. Bin served as the Past President of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, during which the journal's impact factor doubled. Between February 2018 and February 2020, he was the head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, overseeing substantial improvements in research expenditures, and student demographics and ranking.
