Dr. Bing Chen obtained a B.Eng. from Jilin University and an M.Sc. from Peking University, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Regina, Canada. Since joining Memorial University in 2006, he has served as a Professor and Associate Dean of Graduate Studies. He is the Director of Northern Region Persistent Organic Pollution Control Laboratory (NRPOP Lab) and the founding director of the pan-Canadian global Network on Persistent, Emerging Organic Pollution Environment (PEOPLE Network). Dr. Chen’s research focuses on environmental engineering, particularly marine coastal environmental protection, emergency response to environmental disasters, and advanced water treatment solutions. He has led over 60 national and international research projects and has authored or co-authored more than 470 technical publications, including 160 refereed journal articles. Also, he has supervised over 300 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. His commitment to engineering education is reflected through his teaching and advising roles, emphasizing environmental systems management and fostering the development of professional engineers to address environmental challenges sustainably. In addition to his academic contributions, he actively participates in professional societies and provides consulting services in various sectors, including oil and gas, mining, and environmental remediation.
