Biography

Bingen “Ben” Yang is a Professor in Aerospace Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California. He has 20 years of research experience and has published approximately 150 journal and conference papers focusing on solid mechanics, vibrations, structural dynamics, and controls. His current research interests include modeling and analysis of inflatable space structures, control systems in flexible positioning, and the development of intelligent biomedical devices and smart materials. Dr. Yang is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. His work encompasses complex mechanical systems, covering projects such as failure analysis of aircraft and vehicle structures, flexible robotic arms, and distributed vibration dampers, funded by agencies including the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Army Research Office. Dr. Yang has also received numerous awards for his research contributions, including the Northrop Grumman Corporation Excellent Research Award and the USC Faculty Research Innovation Award.
