Biography

Binhai Zheng is a Professor in the Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego. He completed his undergraduate studies in Genetics at Fudan University, followed by a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Kentucky. He obtained his PhD in 1999 from Baylor College of Medicine. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at UCSF/Stanford/Genentech, he joined UCSD in 2004. His research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of axon regeneration and neuroprotection in chronic spinal cord injuries, employing both genetic and molecular approaches. He has received significant funding from the NIH for projects exploring corticospinal axon sprouting and the role of microRNAs in axonal growth following injury. Throughout his career, he has published extensively on subjects such as nerve regeneration, myelin inhibition, and central nervous system repair.
