Biography

Biniam Kidane is a thoracic foregut surgeon with a special interest in minimally invasive endoscopic approaches to both benign and malignant thoracic and foregut diseases. He was recruited to the University of Manitoba to establish an advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy program for thoracic diseases. Dr. Kidane completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and his General Surgery Residency at Western University, receiving the G.E. Meads Award for Clinical Excellence in Teaching, along with various research grants and awards. Following this, he completed his thoracic surgery residency at the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Pearson Teaching and Research Award. His research interests focus on peri-operative care, particularly in lung-protective ventilation and outcomes related to health services in esophageal and lung cancer treatment.
