Biography

Biniam Kidane is an associate professor at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, specializing in thoracic surgery. He has a strong interest in minimally invasive endoscopic approaches to manage both benign and malignant thoracic and foregut diseases. Dr. Kidane was recruited to Manitoba to establish an advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy program for thoracic diseases. He completed his MD at the University of Toronto and his General Surgery Residency at Western University, where he was recognized with the G.E. Meads Award for Clinical Excellence in Teaching. After completing his thoracic surgery residency at the University of Toronto, he received the Pearson Teaching and Research Award. His research focuses on peri-operative care, particularly lung-protective ventilation in thoracic surgeries, and health services outcomes related to esophageal lung cancer, an area where he seeks to improve patient quality of life and oncologic outcomes. Dr. Kidane is also involved in various research groups and has made significant contributions as a Canadian lead for the Oesophago-gastric Anastomosis Audit.
