Dr. Birgit Spanner Ulmer

Biography

Professor Birgit Spanner-Ulmer holds a professorship in Production Technology Media Sector at the Technical University of Munich. Her research primarily focuses on practical case studies in audio and video production, media transitions, program technology planning, and distribution channels for public broadcasting in Germany. She began her academic journey by studying engineering management at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, later obtaining her doctorate at the Technical University of Munich. She also acquired a postdoctoral teaching qualification from the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Before entering academia, Professor Spanner-Ulmer gained substantial industry experience during her six-year tenure at Audi AG in Ingolstadt, where she held management roles in production and technical development. From January 2004 to January 2012, she served as a professor of industrial studies within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Chemnitz. Currently, she is on a leave of absence from TUM, acting as the director of production technology at Bavarian Broadcasting, where she oversees various issues related to television and radio production, including technology, distribution, and planning. Her work emphasizes the optimization of interactions between people and technology within organizations undergoing change.
