Björn Marcus Burmann is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, where he conducts high-level research in structural biology with a focus on the mechanisms of protein interactions and dynamics. He completed his PhD at the University of Bayreuth in Germany in 2010, studying the structural basis of bacterial transcription-translation coupling through NMR spectroscopy. After his doctoral studies, he joined the Biozentrum in Basel, Switzerland, where he worked in Sebastian Hiller's group on chaperone-substrate complexes at atomic resolution. In 2017, he received an independent funding appointment as an Assistant Professor in Chemistry oriented towards life sciences at the Wallenberg Centre for Translational and Molecular Medicine, which is additionally supported by the Wallenberg Academy Fellowship. His research investigates the macromolecular protein machines using high-resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques to understand essential cellular functions.
