Dr. Blake Wilson

Biography

Professor Blake Wilson is the Director of the Duke Hearing Center and an Adjunct Consulting Professor in multiple departments, including the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Communication Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. With four decades of involvement in the development of cochlear implants, he is recognized for his innovative signal processing strategies that are used in contemporary cochlear devices. His groundbreaking work has resulted in numerous publications in prestigious journals, including Nature, and has earned him various accolades, notably the Russ Prize for engineering cochlear implants that enable the deaf to hear, and the Lasker~DeBakey Award for his contributions to the field. Wilson is an esteemed member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and an Honorary Professor at the University of Warwick. He has received several distinguished awards throughout his career, such as the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. He currently chairs the Lancet Commission on Hearing Loss and is actively engaged in global hearing healthcare initiatives, showcasing his commitment to improving auditory health on an international scale.
