Biography

Blas Cabrera is the Stanley G. Wojcicki Professor Emeritus in the Department of Physics at Stanford University. He has been leading significant research in the field of dark matter detection, particularly through his role in the SuperCDMS (Cryogenic Dark Matter Search) collaboration, which aims to identify weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). His notable contributions include pioneering the use of cryogenic detectors made from germanium and silicon crystals, achieving world-leading sensitivity in direct detection efforts. Cabrera completed the CDMS II experiment and managed the SuperCDMS Soudan experiment and G2 SuperCDMS SNOLAB experiment approved by the Department of Energy and National Science Foundation for future upgrades. His academic journey includes various appointments from acting assistant professor to full professor, and he is recognized as a fellow of the American Physical Society. Cabrera has received several honors, including the Stanford Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching and the APS WKH Panofsky Prize for Experimental Particle Physics. His rich experience also encompasses administrative roles and participation in various committees focusing on fundamental constants and undergraduate admissions.
