Biography

Dr. Blessing Ojembe is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba, specializing in gerontological social work. Her research focuses on the aging experiences of Canadian-born immigrant Black older adults, utilizing a community-based approach to qualitative research. With ten years of experience in individual and community-based practice in both Africa and Canada, Dr. Ojembe is a registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. She actively engages in promoting quality care for older adults and their families and is involved in research initiatives aimed at examining loneliness, social isolation, and social participation among racialized Black older adults. She is a founding member and currently serves as the Vice Scientific Director of the Emerging Researchers & Professionals Aging-African Network (ERPAAN). Dr. Ojembe also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in social work, including critical perspectives and qualitative research methods. Her teaching is informed by her extensive practical experience and dedication to social justice, empowerment, and the needs of older Black Canadians.
