Biography

Bob Davidson is a Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Victoria College, affiliated with the Culinaria Research Centre. He specializes in Modern Peninsular Literature and Culture, with an emphasis on cultural theories related to food and hospitality. He is the author of 'Jazz Age Barcelona' (University of Toronto Press, 2009), which was shortlisted for the Canada Prize in Humanities, and 'Hotel: Occupied Space' (University of Toronto Press, 2018). His latest project, 'Scent Spain: Fragrance, Odour and Culture', examines the significance of fragrances and smells within Spain's modern experience. Davidson serves as the Director of the Northrop Frye Centre at Victoria College and is the Chair of the Manuscript Review Committee at the University of Toronto Press. In 2022, he was awarded the XXXIV Premi Josep M. Batista Roca for the promotion of Catalan culture abroad.
