Dr. Bogdan Matache

Biography

Bogdan Matache is an orthopaedic surgeon and assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, specializing in complex knee reconstruction and arthroscopy of the hip and shoulder. He completed his medical degree at McGill University and underwent residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Matache furthered his expertise through fellowship training, including an upper extremity fellowship at Roth|McFarlane Hand & Upper Limb Centre and a sports medicine fellowship at New York University Hospital Langone Health. He has obtained a Diploma in Sport Exercise Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM). Prior to returning to Ottawa, he practiced at Université Laval in Quebec City, where he served as team physician for the Memorial Cup-winning Quebec Remparts and the PWHL Ottawa Gatineau Olympiques hockey teams. Dr. Matache holds active committee leadership roles with the Arthroscopy Association of Canada and North America and is an active reviewer for several sports medicine journals. He is invited to lecture nationally and internationally. His clinical practice emphasizes complex soft tissue reconstruction and joint preservation surgery for the knee, hip, and shoulder. His research interests focus on the effects of knee alignment on cartilage, biomechanics of the knee, and clinical outcomes related to sports medicine procedures involving the hip and shoulder.
