Biography

Professor Boleslaw Wyslouch conducts research in the field of nuclear physics, focusing on the interactions of subatomic particles and energetic collisions of heavy ions. He studies extremely hot and dense states of nuclear matter, with significant contributions to experiments conducted at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. His work has been pivotal in understanding the suppression of high energy jets and the collective effects observed in heavy-ion collisions. Professor Wyslouch also has a strong interest in the computational aspects of high-energy experiments, including the development of trigger algorithms. Initially, he began his academic journey at the University of Warsaw before joining MIT in 1983 as a doctoral student, later earning his Ph.D. in Physics in 1987. He has held multiple roles at MIT, evolving from postdoctoral associate to his current position as a full professor and director of both the Laboratory for Nuclear Science and the Bates Research Engineering Center. His leadership in the CMS collaboration and the PHOBOS experiment has helped establish world-class research programs in heavy-ion physics.
