Bonnie Berger began her career working on algorithms at MIT and is recognized as a pioneer in the area of computational biology. She has mentored numerous students and has been instrumental in defining the field. Professor Berger was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery, the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, the American Mathematical Society, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Throughout her career, she has been awarded the NSF Career Award and the Biophysical Society's Dayhoff Award. She has been recognized in Technology Review Magazine's inaugural TR100 of top young innovators and won the RECOMB Test of Time Award in both 2010 and 2019. Professor Berger has served on the editorial boards of Genome Biology, Annual Reviews of Biomedical Data Science, Bioinformatics, IEEE/ACM TCBB, and Cell Systems. Additionally, she is a faculty member at the Harvard/MIT Health Science & Technology, an Associate Member of the Broad Institute, and an Affiliated Faculty of Harvard Medical School. She was elected to the National Academy of Sciences Class of 2020.
