Biography

Bonnie van Dongen is an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Department of Health Sciences. She began her career in health sciences at Wageningen University, where she obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Her two-year Master's program included a thesis at a general practitioners' office as well as an internship abroad at the University of Newcastle in Australia. Bonnie's passion for qualitative research within school-based health promotion has continued through her PhD work at VU, where she conducted participatory research involving stakeholders, schools, students, and parents. Her involvement in the FLASH project resulted in the development of a web-based platform offering materials and tools tailored for schools. Currently, she continues to engage in research focused on promoting health in school settings and is dedicated to linking academic education with community-based practice. She oversees training modules for Healthy School advisors and collaborates on projects aimed at creating healthy food environments for secondary vocational schools, all while prioritizing the health literacy of young people.
