Biography

Bonnie Weir is a Senior Lecturer and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. She is the founding co-director of the Program in Peace Development at Yale University, where she also serves as a co-director for the certificate program. Her research focuses on political violence and post-conflict politics, with a particular emphasis on Northern Ireland. Weir's current projects investigate how sectarianism affects political behavior and the consequences of minority rights provisions. In addition, she teaches courses related to political violence and the Northern Ireland Troubles. Previously, she held the position of Senior Lecturer in Political Science and served as the director of undergraduate studies for the Program in Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale. Weir regularly lectures at the Yale Young Global Scholars program and has been a visiting scholar at the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice at Queen’s University Belfast. She is involved with Peaceful Schools International and works with various groups on applied policy projects, including the Ad Hoc Committee to Protect the Good Friday Agreement in the Washington Ireland Program.
