Bora Gencturk is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, and both his Master's and Doctoral Degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before joining USC, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Houston for five years from 2011 to 2016. Dr. Gencturk's research interests include extreme event resiliency and sustainability within civil infrastructure systems. He has been recognized with young investigator awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF), including the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award and the Broadening Participation Research Initiation Grant Engineering (BRIGE). He has authored over 50 refereed journal papers, 3 book chapters, 6 research reports, and more than 40 conference papers. Dr. Gencturk teaches courses on structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and structural reliability, and is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. He is also a registered Professional Civil Engineer in California.
