Biography

Bora Gencturk is a Professor in the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey, and both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to joining USC, he served as an assistant professor at the University of Houston for five years. His research interests include extreme event resiliency and sustainability in civil infrastructure. Gencturk has received several honors, including young investigator awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF) as part of the Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program, as well as the Broadening Participation Research Initiation Grant Engineering (BRIGE). He has published over 50 refereed journal papers, co-authored three book chapters, prepared six research reports, and presented more than 40 conference papers. His teaching encompasses courses on structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and structural reliability. He is an active member of professional organizations such as ASCE, the American Concrete Institute, and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute. Additionally, he is a registered Professional Civil Engineer in California.
