Dr. Bora Karasulu

Biography

Bora Karasulu is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick in the Department of Chemistry and WMG, with a strong focus on theoretical computational chemistry, particularly in the field of solid-state energy storage materials. After obtaining his BSc in Chemistry and MSc in Computational Sciences from Koc University, he completed his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research. His doctoral research entailed the computational modeling of excited-state properties in flavoproteins, thus bridging biochemistry and computational chemistry. Subsequently, he has held postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Cambridge and Eindhoven University of Technology, where he worked on experimental and theoretical aspects of solid-state lithium-ion batteries and atomic layer deposition techniques. At Warwick, his current projects include discovering novel solid-state electrolyte materials and enhancing lithium-sodium-potassium solid-state batteries. Bora is an active member of various scientific communities, including the Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Physical Society. He supervises PhD candidates and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, emphasizing computational chemistry and energy materials.
