Boris Kuhlmey is a Professor in the School of Physics at the University of Sydney. He completed his undergraduate studies at the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and obtained a master's degree from the Institut d'Optique, Paris-Sud, France. He was awarded a PhD jointly from Université Aix Marseille III and the University of Sydney in 2003, where he co-developed the multipole method for photonic crystal fibres (PCFs). Kuhlmey joined the ARC Centre for Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS) at the University of Sydney in 2003 to model PCFs. He received an ARC Fellowship in 2006 and became the Education Director for CUDOS between 2007 and 2011. Kuhlmey's research interests include metamaterials, laser-powered light sails, and quantum-THz technology. He is recognized as a NSW Young Tall Poppy by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science. Additionally, he has authored and co-authored over 100 publications in refereed journals and served on the editorial board for Nature Publishing Group's Scientific Reports. Kuhlmey's current research focuses on developing THz-emitter coupling and exploring radiative cooling properties of textiles.
