Biography

Boris Lohmann conducts research in the fields of linear and non-linear control theory, modeling, model reduction, and control engineering applications including mechatronics, automotive systems, and plant automation. He focuses on distributed parameter dynamic systems and the application of artificial intelligence in control methods, particularly adaptive and predictive control. Lohmann studied electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe, where he received his PhD in 1991. After gaining experience in the industrial sector with mail sorting machines at Siemens Electrocom in Constance, he moved into academia, obtaining his postdoctoral teaching qualification (habilitation) in 1994, specializing in system dynamics and control. In 1997, he became a professor of Control Engineering and Collegial Head of the Institute of Automation Technology at the University of Bremen. He joined the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2004 as a full professor and holds a chair in control engineering. He has been awarded 19 patents in mechatronics and plant control, has published over 250 papers, and authored or edited 12 books.
