Bouke is a cultural geographer with a broad interest in issues surrounding representations, tourism, heritage, and landscapes. In recent years, her research has focused on fieldwork as a form of education and specifically on the inclusivity of fieldwork. This aspect is seen as a characteristic and core didactic approach in geography programs, allowing students to learn from their experiences and showing how theory relates to practice. It is essential that all students can participate in fieldwork and learn from it. Under the motto 'Everyone On Board,' she has initiated various projects with colleagues, including pre- and post-fieldwork surveys that provide insights into the perceptions, expectations, and experiences of students during multi-day field trips, and developing new more inclusively designed fieldwork destinations as well as workshops for teachers. Since 2017, Bouke has been involved in Erasmus+ strategic partnerships titled EduChange 1.0 and 2.0 and Shape2gether with various European partners, bringing her fieldwork expertise to these projects. Bouke also serves as the director of the Bachelor's program in Social Geography and Planning and led the recent curriculum renewal of this Bachelor's program.
