Biography

Brad Calder joined the faculty of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in January 1997. He earned undergraduate degrees in computer science and mathematics from the University of Washington and received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1995. Between 1995 and 1996, Calder was a principal engineer at Digital Equipment Corporation's Western Research Lab. In 1996, he co-founded a company in the Bay Area called Tracepoint. At UCSD, Calder co-founded Entropia, where he served as the Director of Platform Engineering from 2000 to 2002. Entropia provides enterprise desktop distributed computing grid solutions. In Fall 1999, Calder organized an annual competition at UCSD aimed at selecting the best undergraduate computer programmers; the winning team represented UCSD at the World Finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.
