Biography

Brad Urquhart is a professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Western University. He completed his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario and went on to pursue a postdoctoral fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. His research primarily focuses on clinical pharmacology, specifically studying pharmacogenetics and how patients respond differently to medications, particularly in the context of kidney diseases. Since starting his independent research program in 2009, he has been investigating drug-induced kidney injury, aiming to understand the variability in patient responses to drugs. Brad is particularly interested in predicting risks associated with drug toxicity using pharmacometabolomic approaches, identifying new biomarkers, and developing strategies to prevent adverse effects. He has received several awards for his academic contributions, including the Faculty Scholar at Western University and the Young Alumni Award from the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students, taking great joy in their successes. Outside of academia, he enjoys sports and nature activities.
