Braden Lee Scott is an architectural historian focused on expanded histories of ancient buildings and the receptions of early modern art. His current book project, 'Building Worlds: Architecture Expanded Early Modern Archaeological Imagination,' explores the diverse aggregation of antiquities referred to as 'classical' and how they shaped early modern artistic imaginations. Another book project, 'Burgundy Bethlehem: Architectural Diplomacy in Fifteenth-Century Mamluk Syria,' examines the movement of architectural materials and the role of diplomats in the renovation of the Bethlehem Basilica between 1450 and 1482. Scott’s research covers a broad range of topics including early modern art and architecture from c. 1300-1700, ancient Mediterranean architecture, and the archaeology of art history. He has held predoctoral fellowships at prestigious institutions such as the Nederlands Interuniversitair Kunsthistorisch Instituut in Florence and the Center for Netherlandish Art in Boston. Moreover, he is an active research affiliate in an international project entitled 'Making Green Worlds: Early Modern Art Ecologies of Globalization.' Scott completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Bibliotheca Hertziana—Max-Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte in Rome. His research interests encompass a wide array of themes such as visual cultures of sexuality, material culture, and climate studies.
