Brady Wagoner’s research aims to develop a socially and culturally sensitive psychology that explores the processes and contexts of people’s meaning-making. Methodologically, he focuses on unfolding processes rather than static characteristics of people’s minds, raising questions to study change in individuals and societies and the ongoing interacting relationships between the two. He has explored the dynamics in a variety of contexts—especially memory, history, history of ideas, and the public understanding of science and technology. His current projects include analyzing how people relate to and make sense of memorial sites, the conceptual history of the 'romantic roots' of psychology, and conducting longitudinal studies of conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers. His work is heavily influenced by ideas from psychology, anthropology, philosophy, and sociology. In 2021, he received the prestigious Humboldt Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for his lifetime contributions to research and teaching. He co-directed the professional candidate program in Cultural Psychology and contributes to courses in social psychology, social theory, and the psychology of religion, while supervising student projects and running PhD courses on visual methods and advanced topics in cultural psychology.
