Dr. Bram Orobio De Castro

Biography

Bram Orobio de Castro is a professor at the University of Amsterdam in the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences specializing in developmental psychopathology. His research focuses on social behavior in childhood and its lasting effects throughout the life course, including impacts on friendships, relationships, education, employment, offending, and mental health. He studies how patterns of social behavior and behavioral problems develop, as well as approaches for prevention and treatment. His key research areas include understanding the mechanisms that sustain social behavior patterns, social information processing, family interaction patterns, and peer social networks. By improving understanding of social development, his work contributes to effective preventative interventions for children, parents, teachers, and healthcare providers. Orobio de Castro leads several projects, including those that aim to enhance decision-making in youth care, strengthen social skills for regulating aggression through virtual reality, and improve parenting skills to reduce behavioral issues among parents. He plays a critical role in national scientific agendas focusing on youth development and education.
