Biography

Bram Vannieuwenhuyze studied history at Ghent University, where he defended his dissertation on the development of a medieval urban space in Brussels in 2008. Following this, he worked as a doctoral assistant at Ghent University and KU Leuven. Since September 1, 2015, he has been appointed as a special chair in historical cartography at the University of Amsterdam. Besides his academic role, he also works as an independent researcher and guide for Caldenberga and teaches at the COOVI Adult Education Center in Anderlecht. Vannieuwenhuyze has held various editorial and advisory positions, including being the chairman of Stichting Explokart and serving as an editor at THOTH Publishing, as well as being involved with WBOOKS and the Brill Series editor STeM in Sint-Niklaas. His work focuses on the field of historical cartography, aiming to enhance our understanding of historical urban spaces and methodologies in cartographic science.
