Biography

Brandon Batzloff has a long history of engagement in projects intended to promote social change. In 2003, he started a non-profit organization called Free Voices, which provided a weekly online magazine aimed at elevating the voices of people who are otherwise unheard. This magazine centered on cross-community discourse, helping individuals and organizations to develop and share strategies for attaining their goals. Over the past decade, Batzloff has focused on creating pathways for direct ownership of scientific research, resulting in participatory action research that allows marginalized communities to build resilient social structures capable of withstanding ongoing climate shocks. He is actively engaged in efforts to create greater equity within the university and is deeply involved in off-campus initiatives that promote community development. Consequently, Batzloff is interested in working with undergraduate and graduate students who wish to explore community resilience and utilize mixed methods research to improve outcomes in their own communities.
