Biography

Brandon Bourgeois is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics at USC Dornsife. His primary research interests encompass the Roman political tradition, Republican imperial history, and late antiquity/early Byzantium. He focuses on various aspects such as law, political institutional history, rhetoric, communication, and the reception studies of classical antiquity, particularly relating to the ancient Mediterranean religion and its connection to the African diaspora. As a creative director and founder of 'The Hype4Homer Project,' he translates and adapts ancient Greek epic and lyric poetry into musical audiobooks and live performances, infusing contemporary Hip Hop and R&B idioms. This project aims to engage the general public with classical works, striving for a broader and more inclusive appreciation of the classical world. Currently, his project is staging performance art, including a comprehensive adaptation of Homer's Iliad as a Hip-Hop audio book titled 'The Trilliad.'
