Dr. Brandon Smith

Biography

Brandon Smith is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Associate Medical Director of the Harriet Lane Clinic. He has a strong background in pediatrics, having completed his medical education at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, followed by a residency at Johns Hopkins Children's Center where he served as chief resident. Dr. Smith further pursued a fellowship in General Academic Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins, and he holds a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research primarily focuses on the equitable delivery of primary care to children with chronic diseases and complex medical needs, especially within historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups. He has published works assessing patient and family engagement in healthcare settings, aiming to improve health outcomes through a better understanding of social determinants of health. Dr. Smith is active in medical education, mentoring trainees and working with the Patient Family Advisory Council to enhance the care experience for patients and families. His commitment to advancing pediatric care includes evaluating community interventions and developing strategies to address the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.
