Biography

Brandon Trask is an associate professor at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law and an adjunct fellow at St. John's College. His research primarily focuses on criminal law, including procedural and evidentiary issues, as well as rights issues in the areas of progressive law and economics. In 2022, he founded the Rights Clinic at Robson Hall and continues to co-supervise its projects. Trask is an active member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and serves on doctoral students’ supervisory committees. Originally from Winnipeg, he worked as a research policy analyst for the Government of Manitoba and later as a Millennium Scholar at the University of Manitoba’s global political economy program. After completing his Juris Doctor (JD) in 2012, he gained litigation experience while working as a volunteer at the University Law Centre and as a summer student at Thompson Dorfman Sweatman LLP. Trask earned his Master of Laws (LLM) at the University of Toronto, specializing in law and economics. His thesis addressed trade-distorting practices. After articling with the Public Prosecutions Division in Newfoundland and Labrador and receiving his call to the Bar in 2014, he worked as a Crown Attorney in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He has taught at Memorial University of Newfoundland and has been a contributor to various media.
