Biography

Branko Kopjar joined the University of Washington in 1997, previously serving as Head Section Preventive Medicine at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. At UW, he taught courses in Epidemiology, Critical Evidence Appraisal, Health Program Evaluation, and Biostatistics within Evidence-Based Healthcare Policy. His research interests focus on clinical trial design, evaluating the safety and effectiveness of investigational medical products, and Real World Evidence (RWE) outcomes research. Over his career, he has been involved as a listed author or co-author in over 500 published articles, reviews, and technical reports. Kopjar serves as a reviewer for North American and European medical journals and has received over 30 honors, including the 2005 John M. Eisenberg Article-of-the-Year award and multiple awards from the North American Spine Society. In addition to his academic role, he also acts as an expert witness and consultant for various civic and private organizations, including the Food and Drug Administration. His contributions to research and education are recognized through his election as Fellow in the American College of Epidemiology and the European Academy for Translational Medicine. From 2014 to 2019, he directed the Executive Master of Public Health Program at the University of Washington and held the distinguished title of Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Chongqing Medical University in China. He has also managed over 100 clinical trials across therapeutic areas including infectious diseases and orthopaedics, and previously served as an adviser to European health ministers.
