Biography

Bree Rosenblum is a Professor of Global Change Biology at UC Berkeley in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. She received her B.A. from Brown University and her PhD from UC Berkeley. Bree’s research focuses on understanding biological diversity on the planet, examining the alarming rates of species formation and loss in the contemporary world. Her work spans scales from genes to ecosystems, including studies in the White Sands desert of New Mexico where new lizard species are evolving, and in the rainforests of South America where amphibians are threatened with extinction. She has published 90 scholarly articles and co-authored a textbook on Global Change Biology with Oxford University Press. Her work has received numerous awards and has been featured in popular press venues including the Discovery Channel and Public Radio. Bree serves as the Director of the campus-wide Berkeley Connect mentoring program and the Berkeley Discovery Initiative, and founded 'the Authentic Academic,' a platform for mentoring and professional development for graduate students and faculty. With over 20 years in academia, Bree's career journey includes roles as a middle school science teacher, yoga instructor, and naturalist, while she continues to support the journey of others in their professional lives.
