Biography
Brenda Austin-Smith is a settler scholar originally from the Maritimes, having studied and taught in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Quebec (at Champlain College CÉGEP). She has designed and taught courses on Film Affect, Film City, Cult Film, Women Filmmakers, French New Wave, Pre-Code Hollywood, Teen Gross-Out Comedies, Film Theory, Documentary Film, and Television. Her teaching and research activities are complemented by her contributions to public writing, participation in community boards, national service in academic unions, and editorial boards. Austin-Smith has served for eight years as the Head of the Department of English, Theatre, Film & Media at the University of Manitoba.
