Biography

Brenda Rubenstein is a Professor of Chemistry and Physics at Brown University. She received her ScB in Chemical Physics from Brown University in 2007, an MPhil in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Cambridge in 2008, and a PhD in Chemical Physics from Columbia University in 2013. Before joining Brown in 2016, she was a Lawrence Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from 2013 to 2016. Her research focuses on developing electronic structure methods that balance accuracy and computational efficiency to address challenges in quantum chemistry, especially in modeling transition metal oxides and nanoclusters. The Rubenstein group employs stochastic methods such as quantum Monte Carlo to study complex materials, enabling predictions related to material design and new phases of matter. In addition to her research work, she is dedicated to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in chemistry and strives to enhance accessibility in STEM education.
