Biography

Brendan Kennedy is a Professor in the School of Engineering at The University of Western Australia and the Head of BRITElab at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. He is a co-founder of OncoRes Medical, serving as Chief Scientific Officer from 2017 to 2021. He obtained his PhD from Dublin City University in 2006, focusing on nonlinear polarization rotation semiconductor optical amplifiers. His current research emphasizes the development of optical coherence tomography and optical elastography, particularly in mechanobiology, tissue engineering, and surgery. Kennedy has published one book, fifteen book chapters, and over 120 peer-reviewed journal papers, while holding 44 granted patents across eight patent families. He was recognized with multiple awards, including the 2019 West Australian 40under40 Award. In his academic roles, he has also served as Acting Co-Program Chair for Biomedical Engineering and Unit Coordinator for BMEG4001 - Biomedical Instrumentation.
