Biography

Brendan McElroy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto. His research interests include state formation, political development, and history, with a focus on representative institutions, Russian politics, and Central East European politics. His work examines the complementary processes of state formation and elite transformation in early modern Europe, particularly emphasizing the genesis of representative and corporative institutions and the evolution of state building and its long-term consequences on economic development. McElroy is currently preparing a book manuscript with the provisional title 'Peasants Parliaments: Agrarian Reform in Eighteenth Century Europe.' He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Georgetown University and his PhD from Harvard University.
